I always enjoy a good farmer’s market. Finding one in the center of Tokyo was a pleasant surprise. The Aoyama Farmer’s market is held on Aoyama Dori on the campus or the Kokuren University ( The United Nations University) every Sunday. There are many kinds of produce, domestic and international. It is the domestic produce I find fascinating. When I am travelling it gives me an insight into the food culture of that particular country. Some particularly Japanese products were, small dried fish for making base stocks called dashi, seaweeds, organic green teas, various vegetables special to Japan, Japanese traditional sweets, Sesame furikake, used to sprinkle on cooked white rice, pickles and a very interesting Yuzu vinegar. Yuzu is a very tasty and aromatic citrus fruit found in Japan. N. sensei and I enjoyed tasting various samples and had a tasty Indian curry and Naan for lunch. All and all a pleasant way to spend a couple of hours on Sunday!

A friend of mine goes to this market regularly. I’ve been meaning to go for ages, and now that I’ve seen your pics, I really have to go! Have you tried the Yuzu vinegar? It sounds amazing.

Yes, I bought a bottle. Not too vinegar like to be honest, very sour in a nice way. I actually drink a bit with water.
