Hitsujiyama and Koinobori

Hitsujiyama, where I saw the beautiful moss phlox, literally translates to Sheep Mountain. At the top of the hill after viewing the flowers there were some rather large sheep who badly need a shear! and some beautiful Koinobori, large carp streamers which are flown on Boys’ day . Boys’ Day or Kodomo no Hi is on  May 5th and is one of the Golden Week public holidays. Sheep also have special significance this year as 2015 is the year of the sheep on the oriental zodiac.
