Travel Theme – Modern

So many images flooded to mind, Modern Art, the Tate in London, M.o.M.A in NY, The Guggenheim in L.A and NY, Outdoor sculpture parks and gardens in Hakone, Japan and in a private garden near Lake Taupo, NZ.

I have images of young masai warriors in traditional robes, spears in one hand and smartphones in the other or the little girl in a sari in the ancient Karni Mata temple in Bikaner India on her phone while about 8 of the 20,000 rats which live there sip milk from a bowl next to her.

I have gone with Cloud Gate or what is affectionately known as “The Bean”, a stunning piece of modern art in Chicago.

I  visited Chicago in the middle of winter in Jan 2011. I was hosted by two dear fellow travelers whom I met on a Habitat for Humanity Build in Vietnam in 2009. Their hospitality and fabulous advice made my trip a memorable adventure and a warm experience despite the bitter cold!

Chicago is a vibrant city with great galleries and outdoor art spaces and I imagine a wonderful place to explore in the summer months! I did enjoy the winter landscape and exploring in winter too.

The bean was fascinating, every angle offered a different perspective. It was a candidate for Cee’s perspective challenge this week too! I loved the reflections and distortions it offered.

As a solo traveler it is not often I have photos of myself and this was before the days of selfie sticks! I had so much fun interacting with this massive modern sculpture.
