This photo was taken at Karni Mata Temple in India.
Locals and tourists flock here. I must admit I was very jumpy and it was not my favourite place in terms of somewhere to hang out and relax! You are required to remove shoes when going through the temple. Luckily my sister gave me the inside information and suggested I have a pair of socks with me on this day.
The rats are considered reincarnated deities and are treated with care and respect. There are over 15,000 rats at the temple.

Very nice capture of the contrast between technology and tradition! The rats are very interesting. My daughter had some as pets when she was in high school, so of course they were my pets too. They were really quite sweet and had personalities like dogs. They made little chortling noises bruxing their teeth when they were content, much the way a cat purrs. One of them used to sit on my daughter’s shoulder and groom her ear. 🙂 … 15,000 though, wow! It must look like an undulating rat carpet in some areas!

I am not usually a jumpy or nervy personal but I was squeaky more than a nest of baby rats and jumping left right and center!

I knew about this temple from the media. Don’t they give us any germs or disease?? I recently saw a UK TV program that a social worker went to a house and found out one tenant was feeding rats! So it might not be a thing only in India?!

I could do without the rats, socks or no. But I love the contrast between the classic outfit and the smartphone. 🙂

I don’t think socks would have been enough for me. A spacesuit perhaps? Major rodent-phobe me. 🙂
