The magic fountains of Montjuïc’s in Barcelona, Spain (Font màgica de Montjuïc in Catalan) are a stunning display of colour, light, music and motion. The fountains were like Can Can dancers or watery fireworks. The colours were luminous and I was in awe from start to finish, a true extravaganza. The show is set to Freddy Mercury’s and Monserrat Caballe’s Barcelona. They performed it here in the plaza in 1992 as part of the Olympic opening concert, It was Freddy Mercury’s last live performance.
The fountains were commissioned for the Great Universal Exhibition of 1929 and were first seen May 19. When designer Carles Buigas first submitted his plans one year before the exhibition, many doubted it could be completed on time as it was so ambitious. With the help of 3000 workers the project was completed and is still an awe inspiring show to this day.
It’s a must see if you are in Barcelona. Take along a picnic and enjoy the show.

If they look good like this in pictures , I wonder how they look like in real time.

Those fountains are spectacular from the pictures, and in person would be even more so! 🙂 Interesting bit of history for them, too!
