Thanksgiving in Japan

Thanksgiving is not commonly celebrated in Japan or New Zealand. It is definitely an American custom. However if you are fortunate enough to have some lovely American friends you may be lucky enought to wrangle an invite to a lovely dinner!

On Sunday I was very thankful to be invited to my good friend’s place, where we celebrated Thanksgiving in fine style. I was surrounded by wonderful , lively, intelligent people from all walks of life and different nationalities. The conversation was interesting, laughter was rife and the food and drink superb.

There was homemade bread, pumpkin pie, pumpkin soup wonderful salads, potatoe mash, strawberries, carrot cake, delicious cheeses, homemade cranberry sauce and the massive guest of honour, a beautifully roasted turkey.

The lads did a fabulous job of carving the turkey. As Matt talked Lee through the complexities of carving the bird, I realised that there was quite a technique to doing it well. I may need to go back and rethink the carnage I am known to inflict on the odd roast chicken!
