This odd piece of street art in Barcelona always fascinated me. He is the work of Javier Mariscal and originally adorned the Gambrinus Seafood Restaurant. The Barcelona City council had the foresight to rescue him when the restaurant closed and after restoring him, they gave him a prime position on the Passeig Colom near the Port Vell.
He is a funky odd character and he reminds me of the Funky Rock band the B52s who sing an odd song called Rock Lobster.

Such a happy lobster too. Wonderful photo for odd balls.

Yay for the B52s! I have a sneaking fondness for giant sculptural foodstuffs (the Ohakune carrot, the L&P bottle in Paeroa, etc).

Cool! In the 1990s my friend Claudia Bell wrote a book about the carrot, and the Kaikoura crayfish, and all those other icons. It was called ‘Putting our Town on the Map.’ I think there was a TV programme as well, but it was while I was living in the UK and I’ve never seen it. I was amazed by how many towns have/had these big sculptural things.
