Blissful Solitude

Language… has created the word “loneliness” to express the pain of being alone. And it has created the word “solitude” to express the glory of being alone.
– Paul Tillich

The marvelous quotes used today were found  on a very astute post by Nes Felicio Photography – Solitude is not Loneliness. Please check it out!

I wonder if the “man in the moon” is relishing his solitude and finding great things to admire , think about and enjoy or is he sad and lonely and isolated?

I live alone, am not afraid to travel alone and enjoy spending time with myself in solitude. I always feel surprised and look puzzled  when people say ” aren’t you lonely?”

I think when I travel alone,  I actually meet more people and make more friendships than when I am part of a group! To me, solitude is not putting walls up in order to be alone, it is a freedom, the walls are down and I am free to do and see what I want, spend time in contemplation and wonder, and just revel in some “me” time.

The day I took these photos was a pleasant day spent in solitude. I went to places I had been wanting to visit, I took my time shooting numerous shots and enjoyed a beautiful day out.

“The best thinking has been done in solitude.”
– Thomas Edison

To quote Nes Felicio –

“Solitude. What separates it from Loneliness is a State of Mind.”

And these words: "To me, solitude is not putting walls up in order to be alone, it is a freedom" are just moving and eye-opening!
